Jill Merriam, fine art photographer and owner of SHELL SYSTEMS LTD. - a digital imaging and photographic arts studio in Richmond , Virginia - specializes in a uniquely developed and executed style of digital photomontage. “My photomontages are blended images of photographs and scanned elements, digitally manipulated. Architectural, urban, scenic, and abstract photographs provide the base; then other elements such as handmade papers, maps, charts, sketches, and other photographs of trees, clouds, flowers, leaves, and textures are layered. Fascinated by the creation of something new from disparate objects, I experiment with these juxtaposed elements until an interesting effect is accomplished. The subsequent creation of an artistic impression is exhilarating and moving. I love to create images that are visually striking, that you can sit and stare at and get lost in.”

Images are output as digital inkjet prints on fine art watercolor paper; and as giclees on watercolor paper and canvas in small limited editions, signed and numbered. If desired, custom museum-style framing can be provided.

Current experimentation with new techniques and artistic processes is incorporating images into variant editions and Polaroid image transfers, as well as mobiles and stabiles. Variant editions are being created from various sized digital inkjet prints of images in sepia, grayscale, full color, or other; and embellished with graphite, watercolor pencils, and oils.

SHELL SYSTEMS LTD. has been represented by the Kenneth Ray Wilson Gallery [Vancouver, Washington], Center of the Earth Gallery [Charlotte, North Carolina], and Antipodawear [Melbourne, Australia]. Jill’s work has been exhibited in Richmond, VA; Winston-Salem, NC; San Diego, CA; and at the Limner Gallery in New York City, NY.

Currently, Jill is represented by White Canvas Gallery www.whitecanvasgallery.com in Richmond, Virginia; and is seeking representation in other cities.
